Maltby Mail

The Trust aims to establish a genuine community newspaper to
serve the needs of the Maltby area. A market feasibility study has
established that such a newspaper would be welcomed by local people and
not only that a need exists but also that they would be willing to
support it in terms of both editorial and advertising. There are a
number of best practice examples available in the surrounding area.
All aspects of newspaper production other than print would be carried
out in house. This would include editorial, design and layout, sale of
advertising and ultimately distribution. It is seen as a critical part
of the process that distribution is controlled effectively so that
advertisers believe their message is being seen.
The newspaper will provide a means for promoting community activities
and engaging with local people. It will provide an affordable means of
advertising for local businesses and create positive publicity for
Maltby, raising the self esteem of those who live and work in the area.
By keeping the majority of activities in house it will provide
employment and volunteering opportunities. When it becomes a sustainable
business the trading surpluses will be used to benefit the local
community.
The first issue was published in the beginning of July with 9200 copies
being delivered directly to every doorstep in Maltby and further copies
being distributed through local public outlets.
